Shame about the rain
May. 7th, 2007 05:25 pmDrove all the way up from Watford this morning, with a stop for brunch at the Toddington services en route. The rain was a bit crazy, but leaving early meant I beat the Bank Holiday traffic. Made it back in good time, got some shopping in and even managed to pick up a new tent at a knockdown price at a tent fair on the town cricket ground. It's enormous, but a tunnel tent and thus easier for one person to put up (supposedly). And I can stand up in the porch area. Winner.
So, more details:
( Friday )
( Saturday )
( Sunday )
And then this morning I beat the rush hour traffic up to Stafford, and here I am. Yes, my leg hurts, but not too badly. I shall review the situation in the morning. I think it's just a bruise, so the doctor would probably just look at me funny.
Must mention comedy moment with leg on the course: stepped backwards into pothole. Went ow, handed bow to laughing friend, staggered sideways, grabbed fallen rotten branch masquerading as a young sapling, fell sideways, catching self with right leg.
Other comedy moment - Joe, Rachel's kiddy, hit the heron target across the stagnant pond with his first arrow but it bounced out into the water. Malcy hooked it out with my arrow (being the longest there) and flicked it up through the air towards me. I had about half a second to react to the fact that a thorny twig was coming with it, which wasn't long enough to stop myself catching it (although I instinctively curled my fingers in to protect the finger tips). Result? A thorn buried deep in the back of my middle right finger. I didn't think any of it broke off but the area is still swollen and weeping, and that water was nasty. Perhaps time for a tetanus booster.
How I've got through my life thus far with the requisite number of limbs is a mystery to me.
Hope you're all doing well and having fun. :-)
