Shooting, summer and being stood up
Aug. 5th, 2007 04:13 pmIt's a glorious weekend. I expect a great number of the gentlemen out there will know exactly what I mean when I say "Hooray for summer". :-D
Anyway, yesterday I drove over to the Merlin Archery Centre near Loughborough for a friendly target competition organised by members of one of the online archery forums I subscribe to. Was lots of fun, although odd in some ways as it was the first target competition I've been to since last year, and only my second shooting without sights. I didn't too well until the end, when I worked out what was going wrong. I also tried shooting a couple of other archers' bows with all the sights, gadgets and wossnames on afterwards. Very, very weird after over a year of shooting without them. I'm sticking with barebow for now.
The standing up thing is courtesy of Jane (sans LJ), who failed to inform me that she would be in North Wales today rather than in my neck of the woods. Luckily I called Jo Saturday night to check what time they'd be here.
So I've had to improvise a Sunday at short notice. So far, I've had a lazy morning in bed with tea, a bacon sarnie and comic books; an early afternoon saunter through town to pick up some other books and stop at Starbucks for lunch; and a shopping trip to Tescos. I've just come back inside after feeding a family of swans most of a loaf of bread. All but Mum were happy to take the bread from my hand. :-)
Plans for the rest of the afternoon involve reading, listening to music and perhaps making a couple of bowstrings. Hope you're all enjoying yourselves, whatever you're up to.
