Some out there will be somewhat surprised at the news that I went to see Sweeney Todd last night, because a) it’s a musical and b) it’s a Sondheim musical. However, some archery friends invited us out and the promise of socialising afterwards made it worth while.
So, the movie: well it was better than Chicago (not difficult). I nearly dozed off once but I laughed a few times. Gory, but obviously fake blood. All the lead actors are good and can sing (unlike in Chicago: Richard Gere should be prosecuted for crimes against humanity), and Sascha Baron Cohen particularly shines in his rather brief appearance. All the things that are normally found in musicals which annoy the hell out of me were there, but not in the amounts they usually are.
Drinkies afterwards were more fun. Archers are a mad bunch. :-)
