A pub in the family
Apr. 3rd, 2008 01:38 pm*Shameless plug alert*
At long, long last, my family owns a pub. Or rather, the lease on a pub.
It's the Red Lion in Betchworth, Surrey. Under the previous owner it has gone somewhat downhill so there's a lot of improvements to make, but it has fantastic potential and there’s a lot of local enthusiasm for the place being under new management. My Dad is in charge overall, my brother’s running the bar and my sister will soon be working there too. It seems my Mum has fallen into the role of "person putting everything in order"; knowing my Mum, this probably means she is viewed with a combination of affection and terror by the staff. An Irish friend of the family (Angela – marvellous and completely mad woman) is flying over today to help Mum with the cleaning and sorting, because she’s "feckin’ bored out of her head" and so is keen to help.
Anyway, there’s a mini hotel with 6 rooms, food, a fantastic beer garden and access to some rather good beers (when Jenny and I played mystery shoppers before contracts were exchanged there was Adnams Broadside on tap).
If you're in the area or passing through, stop by and drop my name. Chances are it won’t get you a free drink, but it will get me familial brownie points.
