Had the shoulder checked out today. I went in feeling quite optimistic; after all, the pain has reduced over the last few weeks and I've been able to shoot a little.

The news is that the supraspinatus tendon is either strained or torn. If it is a tear it's not a big one, as the physio couldn't feel anything other than wear and tear. I've been given some exercises to strengthen the area and will go back next week for more checks. An ultrasound scan may be required if it doesn't respond. These exercises are, unsurprisingly, designed to help me use the shoulder in exactly the way I've been trying to since I first met with the GB shooter who gave me advice on how to avoid such an injury.

However, this is exactly the tendon damage that can end archery careers. Okay, the shooter I met is still going, but he has had to adopt a very odd draw to overcome the impingement. Others have surgery and recover. Some don't.

I'm really hoping this damage was solely caused by my stupidity at trying to start that f***ing petrol strimmer all those weeks ago, and that this course of treatment will solve the problem. If it's more serious I could face long-term treatment or even surgery.

If I have to give up the bow, I honestly don't know what I'll do. I can't imagine it.
