Bookcases!
Jan. 7th, 2007 08:01 pmI have bookcases!
Friday night I raided Ikea for a few bookcases and a wardrobe. After dining on swedish meatballs (very rare, two per Swede) I wandered through a crowd of zombies with a piece of paper and a pen, frantically making notes and totting up prices to make sure I stuck within budget. There followed a mad dash around the warehouse to grab the required boxes.
Saturday morning, my friend and colleague Jon stopped by to give me a lift into Brum (and show me the easiest way to drive into and park in Central Brum). It was then I discovered the damage to one of the wardrobe boxes and the four panels inside. A quick call to Ikea confirmed they'd replace the panels individually so I didn't have to wrestle the box back into the car.
Brum was fine - I was shown two important places: Nostalgia Comics and the Sushi bar in Selfridges (which had an ample supply of non-seafood dishes). Yummy.
When I finally got back home (took the train, as Jon needed to get home earlier, and due to a problem on the line had to bundle onto a bus at Wolverhampton) I started on the bookshelves. I continued today (Sunday) after a run down to Ikea to replace the wardrobe panels and now have enough bookshelf space for all my books and a few more besides. And I only cut myself and bruised myself once. Same finger, unfortunately.
So, I'm now putting my feet up while waiting for a casserole to cook, and surveying my slightly clearer living room. The wardrobe is a project for tomorrow night.
